Vector art images should be saved as CMYK EPS files.

Scanned color images should be saved as CMYK TIFF or CMYK DCS files. Scans should have a resolution of 300 d.p.i. (Dots Per Inch) at the size they will be used in the ad layout.

Digital Camera Images (in JPEG format) should be at least:

  • 640 X 480 pixels = 2.5" x 1/75" image
  • 1280 x 960 pixels = 5" x 3/5" image
  • 1472 x 1104 pixels = 5.5" x 4" image
  • 1600 x 1200 pixels = 6" x 4.5" image
  • 2048 x 1536 pixels = 7.5" x 5.75" image

  • Please remember that digital cameras have variable quality settings. As a general rule we want our customers to use the "highest" quality setting available. This will give them larger files and fewer images that they can store on their camera's disk, but gives us our best assurance of a good reproduction. Remember, the quality of your ad is dependent on the clarity of the material you submit.

Megapixels Explained Digital Images can be printed in different sizes, but to get the best quality image, printers need a sufficient number of pixels every square inch to produce a print that appears smooth. In short, the number of dots placed on the paper must be sufficiently high that the eye will not detect jagged edges. The number of pixels required to print an image so that the print becomes almost indistinguishable from a print made from film, varies according to the size of the print:

  • 1.3 megapixel (1280 x 960) = 4.267 in. x 3.2 in.
  • 2.1 megapixel (1600 x 1200) = 5.333 in. x 4 in.
  • 2.3 megapixel (2048 x 1536) = 6 in. x 4 in.
  • 3 megapixel (2048 x 1536) = 6.827 in. x 5.12 in.
  • 4 megapixel (2400 x 1600) = 8 in. x 5.33 in.
  • 5 megapixel (2560 x 1920) = 8.53 in. x 6.4 in.

  • Alternative page layout or drawing programs may be acceptable. Contact the production department at 800-827-7468 for details PRIOR to sending files.

All advertising materials must be submitted on or before the advertising deadlines listed below. Mine & Quarry Trader is published monthly. In the event that copy changes are not received by the ad deadline, contracted advertiser's copy from the previous issue will be inserted. Advertisers will be short-rated if the actual space used within a 12-month period warrants a different rate than that upon which the contract billing has been based.

For proof ad requests, ad materials must be received two days prior to deadline. Ads submitted digitally must be in by the 4-color deadline each month
